23/05/2011 - Midget in Cliff McNish's top 10 most frightening books for teenagers

Cliff McNish, author of Angel, Breathe and The Doomspell Trilogy, has identified Midget as one of his ten most frightening books for teenagers. His list includes Bloodtide by Melvin Burgess, The Tulip Touch by Anne Fine and The Diary of Anne Frank.

He says of Midget, 'Tim is universally recognised as one of our finest authors of teenage fiction, but one of the least well-known slices of his work is this short, breathlessly-intense first novel. Midget doesn't have much going for him. He's fifteen years old, three foot tall and trapped in a useless, twitching body he can't control. To add to his woes he's tortured by Seb, his cruel older brother. We're set for a roller-coaster ride of psychological darkness, and Bowler delivers it in bruising incandescent waves.'
