05/04/2011 - Tim writer in residence at Southend High School for Boys
Tim was writer in residence as part of a project between the Royal Opera House/Creative Partnerships and Southend High School for Boys to re-launch the library.
During the week 7-11 March, Tim was involved in a wide range of activities including speaking to all Year 7 in groups, the whole of Year 9 in an assembly, working with two groups of keen Year 8 writers throughout the week leading to pieces for display in the library, running one-to-one sessions with keen writers from Year 13, a video interview for Press Gang, judging a short story competition for Year 7 and lunchtime activities talking to selected groups of pupils in the library.
The week’s events culminated in a celebration in the library on the final day and included pieces of creative writing from workshop students, artwork by students involved in an earlier week of activities with artist-in-residence Ptolemy Elrington, and a speech from Headteacher Mr Robin Bevan.
Tim said, ‘It was a fantastic week and the workshop students in particular were nothing short of inspiring.’
