21/09/2012 - Tim visits Ashfield Young Offenders Institute

Tim visited Ashfield Young Offenders Institute in Bristol on 18 September. The Institute houses around 360 male offenders between the ages of 15 and 18, many of whom have had prior negative experiences of education. Tim’s visit was part of a literary festival organised by the Institute with motivational talks, literary workshops and performances from a variety of authors, poets, speakers and performance artists including Chris Preddle, Nikesh Shukla, Elen Caldecott, Adam Peck, Tim, and the former rugby union international Scott Quinnell. The aim of the festival was to stimulate interest in literature and the spoken word among the young men in care at Ashfield.

Tim gave two talks about his writing experiences and he also read passages from Blade. Kelly Chong, Librarian at HMP & YOI Ashfield said, ‘We have your Blade series in our library as well as some of your other titles and they are popular books with our lads.’
