04/03/2011 - Tim supports National Libraries Day

Support is building rapidly for the establishment of a National Libraries Day on the first Saturday in February each year. The idea for the event emerged out of the local campaigns with Anthony Scully of the Save Sydenham Library making the initial suggestion. This has now been adopted by an impressive and growing list of organisations, authors, librarians, publishers, teachers, local campaigns and library users. Among the many authors to support the initiative are Philip Pullman, Linda Newbery, Julia Golding, Mary Hoffman, Robert Swindells, Eleanor Updale, Bernard Ashley, Malcolm Rose, Adele Geras and Tim.

Tim said, ‘I am fully behind this initiative and indeed any initiative that helps to celebrate libraries and to safeguard the vital role they play in the cultural life of our society.’
