23/03/2012 - Going with the Flow, with Tim Bowler

The Tim Bowler Creative Writing Workshop at the Emirates Festival of Literature...What can I say?...It was spellbinding. We were a diverse group covering a wide age and cultural range, but Tim held everyone’s attention from the first syllable.

He talked animatedly about the process of writing and discussed how different writers have equally different methods of working. When he writes, he prefers to let his characters take him where they want to go, without following a strict plan or plot outline. For example,he described writing a part of Storm Catchers, where a young girl hears a tapping noise and doesn’t know where it’s coming from, and he said “I didn’t know what it was either!”
