Tim said of his experience of the final, ‘Fantastic, inspiring kids. They love their books, know their books, they’re all great characters, and they’re fiercely competitive. The audience was packed with authors, teachers, parents, librarians, organisers, team coaches, dignitaries, sponsors, booksellers, etc. Australia established a stranglehold early on and held their lead right through to the final round, with all the other teams pushing hard to catch up, then UK nailed three big questions, the Aussies had a couple of penalty deductions, and UK squeezed past to win by a whisker. Thrilling contest, wonderful young people, excellent organisation, and Quizmaster Wayne Mills deserves all the medals he gets for setting up KLQ back in the 1990s.’

The final result was:

1. UK – City of London School for Girls (35 points)
2. Australia – Canberra Grammar School (33 points)
3. New Zealand – Awakeri School, the Bay of Plenty (28 points)
